What is Art on Auburn 2?
“Art on Auburn 2” is a community art project that brings unique, local art to the Brooklands neighborhood. A total of 20 pieces of artwork were selected by a jury and community members to be installed in the Brooklands. The first “Art on Auburn” took place in 2021 and features 25 pieces of student artwork that were applied directly to the surface of Auburn Road.
We asked artists to create their artwork for “Art on Auburn 2” around the theme:

I love Rochester Hills because that is where my roots are. My parents have always had a connection to Michigan and chose to live here because of everything there is to do. Everything is always evolving here giving it a fresh feel. With our roots here it gives me a feeling of being proud of where I’m from and who I will become by living here. That’s why I love Rochester Hills and why I’m proud to call it home.

I love Rochester Hills. In my art you can see the Rochester Hills Fireworks which is a treat to watch each year. Downtown Rochester is my favorite place to visit during weekends. Rochester Hills parks are gorgeous and well maintained I love spending time with my family at parks in summer. I love the Rochester Hills Public Library; a place that imparts knowledge to the community (like a tree of wisdom that keeps nurturing society). Last but not the least, I love the people of Rochester Hills; they are really warm and welcoming and as they say, the people make the city.

I live in Rochester Hills with my family. I started my school at Hampton Elementary. I usually go to Innovation Hills with my family. The Village of Rochester Hills is always my favorite place for shopping and walking around with a scoop of ice cream. I love the history behind the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm and enjoyed my field trip there with my school friends. I love to eat the donuts from Yates Cider Mill. These are my reasons to love Rochester Hills, which I am trying to show in my art.

I love Rochester Hills because of the beautiful landscapes that it has. And the community that is created, as well as being able to appreciate the nature that we have been given.

To show why I love Rochester Hills, I chose an image of ducks in a pond to represent the community. I love the park, for its plentiful and diverse wildlife, and the hundreds of ducks that call the ponds home. I also think that our community and the pond are alike in many ways. The design features ripples in the pond surrounding the ducks, which represent our actions which ripple out into the community and influence each other. In our pond, we all live together and we're connected by the ripples we send out into the water.
Xenia Gaytan
Xenia loves Rochester Hills because of the beautiful nature that abounds within. ‘Stargazing’ is the name of the artwork.

I love Rochester Hills. It is beloved by many for its combination of suburban charm and access to urban amenities. Its proximity to Detroit offers cultural attractions, employment opportunities, and a diverse range of dining and entertainment options. At the same time, Rochester Hills itself boasts a strong sense of community, with well-regarded schools, parks, and recreational facilities. Its tree-lined streets, upscale neighborhoods, and abundance of green spaces contribute to its appeal for families and individuals seeking a high quality of life. Additionally, the City's commitment to economic development and maintaining a high standard of living further enhances its attractiveness to residents and visitors alike.

Rochester Hills is where I was born and raised. Here in Rochester Hills live individuals representing diverse cultures. At the same time, beauty flourishes within the growing community while we open our doors and minds to new adventures and opportunities each day.

For me, I love Rochester Hills because it is home. I come from a family with nine kids, that is probably the reason my parents chose Rochester Hills (Brookland Sub) back in 1966. I grew up and went to school here, married and moved away, but now I am back. My experience gives me the insight to say that Rochester Hills may not be a place where everyone knows your name but instead are willing to greet you with a smile and a hello.

I love Rochester Hills because of the effort put into the nature trails all around the area. After living in a town that didn’t prioritize that, it’s been a wonderful change to be able to bike, walk, or paint somewhere accessible on a nice day. My favorite trail is definitely Paint Creek, and I love watching everyone walking around on the first day of summer, all doing their own thing, but we get to enjoy the surroundings as a community.

Just like a rainbow, Rochester Hills is the collage of beautiful people from cultures around the world and folks here respect each other, irrespective of their race, nationality, color or gender. The City exudes joy in summer, warmth in winter, and is the epitome of American culture and values! What more does life need other than love and peace, both of which are hallmark traits of Rochester Hills! As a child of immigrant parents, this city is a home away from my other home and feels the same in all ways. I will forever love Rochester Hills.

I love Rochester Hills because it is a great place to raise a family. I have four boys and we are a very active group. We are always going to parks, swimming in our lake (Avon Lake) and enjoying nature. My favorite part of Rochester Hills is the amount of trees. I designed my Art on Auburn 2 piece to reflect my love of trees. I have participated in the free street tree program at my old residence, planting two trees. I then moved to a new house in Rochester Hills and participated again, and planted another two trees. I can’t get enough of them and plan to add more trees to my property.

The parks are breathtaking and I love the landscape of it all. The comforting atmosphere makes me feel at peace and I love it. I also love the theater. I go there all the time. I have many family and friend memories that I cherish here.
Ellie Rupert
I love my neighborhood and the diversity of the people in it. It’s fun to learn about the customs and traditions different people have. I also like all the different parks in Rochester Hills. I go walking with my family in many of the parks.

I love Rochester Hills because of the friendly people I encounter each day. It is a very lively, yet very peaceful community. There is a sense of love and unity especially when one takes advantage of the many amenities here like the beautiful Paint Creek Trail, the wonderful schools and places like Meadow Brook Theater. The businesses are staffed by very accommodating people. And the Ascension Hospital is so handy, just a mile from my home. I have lived here for over 30 years. My husband and I raised our three sons here. I’m very proud to call Rochester Hills my home.

Rochester Hills has always been one of my favorite places to go. The wonderful people, picturesque landscapes, and the diverse activities have made Rochester Hills a unique place for me. The most distinct figures in shaping my perspective of Rochester Hills were the scenery, arts, and the experiences I have had here.
